How To Crochet Elastic Into  A Crochet Item
pp8e3110d2.jpg
Nothing is worse then finishing an item and seeing that it doesn’t fit.  That happened to me when I designed a pair of panties for an American Girl Size Doll.  As you can see to the left, the panties fit the doll everywhere but around the waist.  What to do?  Crochet elastic around the waist band causing it to fit.

You will need 1\4” wide elastic, sewing needle and sewing thread as well as the panties.
Begin by measuring around the doll’s waist at the point where the panties will sit.  In this case it turned out to be 10”.  Cut a piece of elastic that long.  Over lap the ends (I like to over lap around a 1\4” to 1\2”) and then sew to hold.

When sewing the over lapped edges together I like to sew around one side and then the other and then knot off. Normally I wouldn’t use black thread to sew the elastic together, but it shows up well in photos.
