Patterns Written In US Terms

Materials: 2-3 oz Bernat Super Value worsted weight yarn in White and Black, 1-2 oz Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Cherry Red, 1 oz or less Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Pumpkin, Size H crochet hook, needle to take yarn, small amount of stuffing, 7 (4 costume & 3 top) small snaps, sewing needle and sewing thread.
Gauge: 5 hdc sts = 1-1/2”, 3 rows hdc = 1”, appliqué is 3”, toy is 4-1/2” tall.
Finished Size: Will fit 12-13-inch Baby Doll
Please Note:  costume is worked with two balls of black yarn in order to keep the white pure (no shadow from the black yarn as it is worked behind the white stitches)
Penguin Costume:
ROW 1: With Black and H hook ch-34, hdc 2nd ch from hook, hdc next 9 ch, join White, drop Black, hdc next 13 ch, join Black, drop White, hdc next 10 ch, ch-1, turn.  (33 sts)
ROW 2-6: Hdc next 10 sts, drop Black, pick up White, hdc next 13 sts, drop White, pick up Black, hdc last 10 sts, ch-1, turn.
ROW 7: Hdc next 10 sts, pick up White, fasten off Black, hdc next 13 sts, pick up Black, fasten off White, hdc last 10 sts, ch-1, turn.
ROW 8: Hdc next 7 sts, leave remaining sts unworked, ch-1, turn.  (7 sts)
ROW 9: Hdc dec next 2 sts, hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn.  (6 sts)
ROW 10-11: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn.
ROW 12: Sl st next 4 sts, hdc last 2 sts, ch-1, turn.  (2 sts)
ROW 13: Hdc ea st across, fasten off.
ROW 14: With Black and H hook join in end row 7, ch-1, hdc same st as beg ch-1, hdc next 6 sts, leave remaining sts unworked, ch-1, turn.  (7 sts)
ROW 15-19: Rep row 9-13.  End row 19 fasten off.
ROW 20: With White and H hook join in 2nd white st on row 7, ch-1, hdc same st as beg ch-1, hdc next 10 sts, leave remaining sts unworked, ch-1, turn.  (11 sts)
