MATERIALS:
Red Heart 4 ply yarn in White (3 skeins 8 oz), Royal (1 skein) and Cherry Red (2 skeins), size J hook or hook to obtain gauge and needle to take yarn.
GAUGE: 5 hdc = 1-1\2”, 2 rows hdc = 1”
FINISHED SIZE: Star block: 5-1\2” square. Afghan: 37-1\2” X 65”
STAR BLOCK:
With yarn A ch-3, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, work 10 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (10 sts)
RND 2: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (15 sts)
RND 3: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, join color B, fasten off A, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (20 sts)
RND 4: Sl st 1st st, * ch-11, sk 3 sts, sl st next st, * rep bet ** 4 times, ch-11, sk 3 sts, sl st top beg sl st, join color A, fasten off B, ch-1, turn.
RND 5: Press lps back (2 hdc next st, hdc next 3 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (25 sts)
RND 6: Hdc next st, (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (33 sts)
RND 7: 2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts, sl st in 6th ch of rnd 4 ch-11, (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) 3 times, sl st in 6 th ch of next ch-11, rep bet () twice, 2 hdc next, sl st 6 th ch of next ch-11, hdc next 2, 2 hdc next, hdc next 2, 2 hdc next, sl st 6 th ch of next ch-11, 2 hdc next, hdc next 2, 2 hdc next, sl st in 6 th ch of next ch-11, hdc last 2 sts, sl st top beg hdc, turn.
RND 8: Ch-3 (does not count), * (trc, ch-2, trc) next st, hdc next, dc next, sc next 6, hdc next, dc next, * rep bet ** around, sl st top beg ch-3, fasten off.
