Patterns Written in US Terms

MATERIALS: 4 ply yarn in Black and White, H hook or hook to obtain gauge.
GAUGE: 4 sts (sc, dc) = 1”, 4 rows pattern = 1”
HAT:
With white yarn and H hook ch-4, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, work (sc, dc) 3 times in ring, drop white, join black, ch-1, rep bet () 3 times, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (12 sts)
RND 2: (Sc, dc) next st 6 times, drop black, pick up white, rep bet () 6 times, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (24 sts)
RND 3: * Sc next dc, dc next sc, (sc, dc) next 2 sts, * rep bet ** 3 times, drop white, pick up black, rep bet ** 3 times, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (36 sts)
RND 4: (Sc next sc, dc next sc) around dropping and picking up colors as established.
RND 5: * (Sc next dc, dc next sc) twice, (sc, dc) next 2 sts, * rep bet ** 3 times, drop white, pick up black, rep bet ** 3 times, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (48 sts)
RND 6: Rep rnd 4.
RND 7: * (Sc next dc, dc next sc) twice, (sc, dc) next 2 sts, * rep bet ** 4 times, drop white, pick up black, rep bet ** 4 times, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (64 sts)
RND 8-12: Rep rnd 4.  At the end of rnd 12 fasten off both yarns.
RND 13: Join black last white st previous rnd (you are now switching the colors) ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, dc next sc, (sc next st, dc next sc) across to color change, drop black, join white, ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, dc next s, (sc next dc, dc next sc) around, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.
RND 14-18: Rep rnd 4.
RND 19: Sc next dc, dc next sc, * (sc next dc, dc next sc) twice, (sc, dc) next 2 sts, * rep bet ** 5 times, drop black, pick up white, rep bet ** 5 times, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.  (88 sts)
RND 20-24: Rep rnd 4.  At the end of rnd 24 fasten off both yarns.
