Patterns Written in US Terms

MATERIALS: 4 ply yarn in Black and White, H hook or hook to obtain gauge.
GAUGE: 4 sts (sc, dc) = 1”, 4 rows pattern = 1”
FINISHED SIZE: 6” X 54”
SCARF:
ROW 1: With white yarn and H hook ch-21, sc 2nd ch from hook, dc next ch, (sc next ch, dc next ch) 4 times, drop white, join black, ch-1, sc same ch as ch-1, dc next ch, rep bet () 4 times, ch-1, turn.  (20 sts)
ROW 2: (Sc next dc, dc next sc) 5 times, drop black, pick up white, rep bet () 5 times, ch-1, turn.
ROW 3: (Sc next dc, dc next sc) 5 times, drop white, pick up black, rep bet () 5 times, ch-1, turn.
ROW 4-16: Rep row 2-3 alternating.  At the end of rnd 16 fasten off both yarns.
ROW 17: Join black yarn last st row 16, ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, dc next st, (sc next dc, dc next sc) 4 times, drop black, join white, ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, dc next st, rep bet () 4 times, ch-1, turn.
ROW 18-30: Rep row 2-3 alternating.  At the end of row 30 fasten off both yarns.
ROW 31: Join white last st previous row, ch-1, sc same st as beg ch-1, dc next st, (sc next dc, dc next sc) 4 times, drop white, join black, ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, dc next st, rep bet () 4 times, ch-1, turn.
Rep row 2-31 4 times
Rep row 4-16 and fasten off.
