Patterns Written in US Terms

MATERIALS:
Size 5 DMC Pearl Cotton in the following colors: Dark Brown, Gold, Dark Orange and Olive Green, size 0 (zero) crochet hook and needle to take pearl cotton (optional).
FINISHED SIZE:  Large: 1-3\4” X 2”; Medium: 1-1\4” square; Small: 1” square.

LARGE BUTTERFLY PATCH:
 Please note: Carry all unused pearl cotton behind sts as you work.  You will always be dropping and picking up colors as you work which will be stated in the first couple of rows and not repeated again unless joining a new color.
ROW 1: With Gold and 0 (zero) hook ch-14, sc 2nd ch from hook, sc ea ch across, ch-1, turn.  (13 sts)
ROW 2: Gold sc next 5 sts, join Orange, drop gold, sc next 4 sts, drop orange, pick up Gold, sc last 4 sts, ch-1, turn.
ROW 3: Gold sc next 2 sts, Orange next 4, join Olive, drop Orange, sc next sts, Orange next 2, Gold last 4 sts, ch-1, turn.
ROW 4: Gold next 3 sts, join Brown, drop Gold, sc next st, Orange next, Olive next, Orange next, Olive next, Orange next, Olive next 3, Gold last st, ch-1, turn.
ROW 5: Gold next st, Olive next, Orange next, Olive next, Orange next 2, Olive next, Orange next, Brown next, Orange next 2, Gold last 2 sts, ch-1, turn.
ROW 6: Gold next st, Orange next 2, Olive next, Orange next, Brown next, Orange next 3, Olive next 3, Gold last st, ch-1, turn.
ROW 7: Gold next 6 sts, Brown next, fasten off Brown DMC, Orange next, Olive next, Orange next, Olive next, Orange next, Gold last st, ch-1, turn.
ROW 8: Gold next st, Orange next 2, Olive next, Orange next 2, Gold last 7 sts, ch-1, turn.
