Slouchy Beret
Free Crochet Pattern
   Please Note: This beret was made using Front Post Double Crochet and Back Post Double Crochet stitch.  For a photo tutorial on how to make these stitches please click here.
MATERIALS:2-3 oz Sensations Rainbow Boucle in Red (1050) and size K crochet hook.
GAUGE: Raised st + ch-2 + raised stitch = 1”, 2 rows pattern = 1”
FINISHED SIZE: Will fit most adults.
SPECIAL STITCHES: The raised stitch used in this pattern is Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) and Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC).  These are regular Double Crochet stitch worked around the base of the previous rows stitch either toward the front of your work or to the back in order to keep all the raised stitches facing the same way.
BERET:
With yarn and K hook ch-4, sl st to form a ring.
 RND 1: Ch-3 (does not count), work 12 dc in ring, sl st top beg ch-3, turn.  (12 sts
 RND 2:  Ch-5 (1st dc + ch-2), * BPDC next st, ch-2, (BPDC, ch-2) twice next st * rep bet **, end with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5, turn.  (18 sts)
 RND 3: Ch-5, (FPDC next st, Ch-2) ea st around, sl st 3rd ch of beg ch-5, turn.
 RND 4: Rep rnd 2.  (27 sts)
 RND 5: Rep rnd 3.
 RND 6: Ch-5, * (BPDC next st, ch-2) next 2 sts, (BPDC, ch-2) twice next st * rep bet ** around, sl st 3rd ch of beg ch-5, turn.  (36 sts)
 RND 7: Rep rnd 3.
 RND 8: Rep rnd 6. (48 sts)
 RND 9: Rep rnd 3.
