This stitch pattern is based on chains, single crochet and double crochet stitches and is based on a multiple of 4 chains + 2 chains.  This means if you want to make this pattern with 24 bobble/double crochet repeats you would multiply 24 X 4 = 96 and then add 2 to get the number of chains needed for you foundation chain.  In my example I used 18 chains to make a small square with the pattern.  This is how the example is written.
You will also need to know how to make a bobble stitch
Bobble Stitch:
Work 4 dc leaving last lp of ea dc on hook, yo, pull through all lps on hook.
4 double crochet have been worked leaving the last loop of each stitch on your hook.
Yo and pull through all 5 loops on your hook.
Chain 1 to close and finish the stitch.
