MATERIALS:
Bernat Baby Softee yarn in Lemon, size 10 crochet thread in Pumpkin, White & Black, size 7 & F crochet hooks or hooks to obtain gauge, needle to take yarn, stuffing, craft glue and 3 square plastic springs.
GAUGE: 4 hdc sts = 1”, 3 rows hdc = 1”
FINISHED SIZE: 5” tall
ELEPHANT BODY:
With Lemon and F hook ch-3, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, work 12 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 2-3: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (18 sts)(27 sts)
RND 4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (36 sts)
RND 5: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 3 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (45 sts)
RND 6-13: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
At this point insert cut end of round spring into center (rnd 1) of front of elephant body, twist until sever rings are to the wrong side. With needle and yarn sew rings to wrong side to hold in place.
RND 14: (Hdc dec next 2 sts, hdc next 3 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (36 sts)
RND 15: (Hdc dec next 2 sts, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (27 sts)
