Plastic Spring Snail
Free Crochet Pattern
MATERIALS:
Bernat Softee Baby yarn in Lilac, size E crochet hook or hook to obtain gauge, needle to take yarn, stuffing and 1 plastic spring any shape.
GAUGE: 4 hdc sts = 1”, 3 rows hdc = 1”
FINISHED SIZE: 6” long
SNAIL:
With yarn and E hook ch-3, sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch-1, work 8 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (8 sts)
RND 2-3: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (12 sts)
RND 5-6: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 7: Rep rnd 4.  (18 sts)
RND 8-17: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 18: (Hdc dec next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (9 sts)
RND 19-20: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 21: 2 hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (18 sts)
RND 22: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (24 sts)
RND 23-25: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.
RND 26: (Hdc dec next 2 sts, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (18 sts)
RND 27: (Hdc dec next 2 sts, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.  (12 sts)  Stuff snail.
RND 28: Rep rnd 18, fasten off.  (6 sts)
PUTTING THE SNAIL TOGETHER:
Place both ends of spring tog to form a circle.  With a small amount of thread tie ends tog so it holds its shape.  You will need to do this a second time. With needle and yarn sew spring to snail’s body.
