Patterns Written in US Terms
ROW 5: Ch-3, 2 dc same st as ch-3, * sc 3rd dc, 5 dc next sc, rep from * across ending with 3 dc last st, turn.
ROW 6: Ch-1, sc same st, * ch-3, sc next st, ch-4, sc next st, rep from * across, fasten off.
Sew or sl st sleeve edges tog.  Sew or sl st ea sleeve into arm hole easing fullness at top of sleeve.
BACK FACING:
ROW 1: With rt side facing you join white yarn 1st st along edge back of gown sk bottom edging of gown, ch-1, evenly work sc in lps and st ends across piece, ch-1, turn.
ROW 2-3: ch-1, sc ea st across, turn.  At the end of row 3, fasten off.
OTHER SIDE BACK FACING:
ROW 1: With wrong side of gown back facing you and skipping bottom edging join white yarn 1st st, ch-1, evenly work sc across, turn.
ROW 2: Ch-1, * sc next st, sk 2 sts, 5 dc next st, sk 2 sts, rep from * across ending with sc in last st, fasten off.
FINISHING TOUCHES:
With needle and matching thread sew eight snaps evenly along back opening of christening gown.
To finish sleeves, cut the 3\8” ribbon in half.  Thread ribbon over and under dc in edging.  Gather sleeves to fit around child’s arm and tie in a bow.
Take the 18” X 43” piece of material and fold 1\4” under along all edges and press.  Fit the material along the back inside of the gown’s skirt between back facings and skirt edging.  With matching thread and needle, sew in place.
Cut two 50” piece of ribbon from the 7\8” ribbon.  Find the center of ea ribbon and tie into a bow.  Sew a bow to ea side of gown at bodice.
BONNET
ROW 1: With white yarn and G hook ch-22, sc 2nd ch from hook, sk 1 ch, 5 dc next ch, sk 1 ch, sc next ch, (ch-5, sk 3 ch, sc next ch) 3 times, sk next ch, 5 dc next ch, sk next ch, sc next ch, turn.
ROW 2: Ch-3, 2 dc same st as ch-3, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc, sc next arch, (ch-5, sc next arch) twice, 5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 3 dc last sc, turn.
ROW 3: Ch-1, sc same st as beg ch-1, 5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc, sc next arch, ch-5, sc next arch, 5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc, sc top ch-3 previous row, turn.
ROW 4: Ch-3, 2 dc same st as ch-3, (sc rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc) twice, sc next arch, (5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group) twice, 3 dc last sc, turn.
ROW 5: Ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, (5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group) twice, ch-5, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, rep bet ()twice, turn.
ROW 6: Ch-3, 2 dc same st as ch-3, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, ch-5, sc next arch, ch-5, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 3 dc last sc, turn.
ROW 7: Ch-1, sc same st as ch-1, 5 dc next sc, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, (ch-5, sc next arch) twice, ch-5, sc 3rd dc next 5 dc group, 5 dc next sc, sc top ch-3 previous row, turn.
Rep rows 2-7 for a total of 8 times, then fasten off.
